On Thursday, February 15, 2018, at approximately 1450 hours, the Manhattan Beach Police Department was made aware of a Snapchat photo sent out by a Mira Costa High School student of an airsoft handgun pointed at other students.  The Manhattan Beach Police School Resource Officer was on campus when he was notified about the photo by Mira Costa High School staff.  MBPD immediately began an investigation to identify the student.  The student was identified and admitted to “stickering” a photo of an airsoft handgun over a photo of students on campus.  No gun was brought onto the campus.  The student was arrested and booked at the Manhattan Beach Police Department for criminal threats.  The Manhattan Beach Police Department determined there was no immediate threat to any students on campus.   We have assigned officers to conduct directed patrols in and around all of our schools for the next several weeks during the morning and afternoon hours.
