WCPD arrests suspect wanted for 3 armed robberies, suspected of committing 40+ more in several counties

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, West Covina Police Detectives arrested a man suspected of committing three armed robberies located within the city of West Covina. The suspect is also believed to have committed a string of additional robberies throughout the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside Counties.

The three robberies in West Covina occurred on September 15, 2017 in the 2700 block of E. Garvey, December 25, 2017 in the 400 block of N Azusa Avenue and on January 5, 2018 in the 500 block of N. Azusa Avenue.

Through the investigation, West Covina Detectives were able to identify the suspect and a search warrant was obtained. Together with Investigators from the Pasadena Police Department, the warrant was served just after 8:00 AM at two locations; the 9600 block of Nan Street, Pico Rivera and the 2800 block of Via San Delarro, Montebello. The suspect was located and arrested without incident at the Pico Rivera location. Evidence was located at both locations which connected the suspect to certain crimes.

Booked for Robbery is Michael Anthony Tapia, 51 of Pico Rivera. He is currently being held at the West Covina Police Department jail with a bail of $1 Million. He is scheduled to appear in the Pomona Superior Court on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 8:30 AM.
