Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 01-30-18 at 12:24 a.m., after being stopped for a traffic violation in the area of Schwerin Street and Geneva Avenue, two subjects, a 32-year old female Daly City resident and a 26-year old male Daly City resident, were arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The male subject was also found to be using false identification. Both of them met the description of two suspects wanted for burglary in South San Francisco. The subjects were positively identified from an in-field show, and they were released to the custody of the South San Francisco Police.

On Tuesday, 01-30-18 at 3:35 p.m., Officer Gill conducted a traffic stop on the 700 block of Schwerin Street for a registration violation. Officer Gill exited his patrol vehicle and began to approach the vehicle when the driver of the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed. The officer was able to get back into his vehicle and follow the subject who was running stop signs at several intersections. Officer Gill then observed the vehicle crash into the cement retaining wall on the southwest corner of Schwerin Street b Martin Street. The airbags of the suspect vehicle were deployed, and the driver exited the vehicle and ran into the Midway Village apartment complex. Officers were unable to locate the driver. Officer Gill conducted an inventory of the suspect vehicle and found a cell phone, ski mask and schoolwork. Detectives were able to identify the suspect, a 17-year old Daly City resident. Officers went to the subject’s last known address, and the suspect’s grandmother said he no longer lived at the residence and gave officers another address where the suspect sometimes stays. Officers went to that residence, and the suspect’s brother advised he was on the balcony. The suspect was attempting to climb over the balcony and was taken into custody. The suspect told the officer he had stolen the vehicle a day before from Enterprise Rent a Car and thought he was being pulled over for that. The suspect was arrested for vehicle theft, hit and run and for resisting a peace officer.
On Thursday, 02-01-18 at 11:59 p.m., Officer Bermudez was on patrol on Oriente Street and saw a Brisbane police officer who was conducting a pedestrian stop on the unit block of Oriente Street. The Brisbane officer said he had just stopped a subject and when he made contact with the him, he heard what sounded like items being discarded into a bed of a pickup truck which was parked in the driveway next to where they were standing. The officer said he looked into the bed of the truck and found two cell phones. The officer said the subject told him one of the phones was his and that he was trying to sell the other one, an iPhone. Moments later, the iPhone started ringing, and the officer said the caller was looking for his phone that was taken from his unsecured vehicle only minutes earlier at the intersection of Oriente Street and Geneva Avenue. The subject, a 26-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for auto burglary and for possession of stolen property.

On Friday, 02-02-18 at approximately 2:26 a.m., a 16-year old Antioch resident was arrested for being in unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of under 28 grams of marijuana and for committing an adult offense as a juvenile. This occurred following a pedestrian stop in front of the Royal Palace Motel on Geneva Avenue. During the same incident, a 31-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Later that morning, a hotel employee found a firearm in the vicinity of where the subjects were contacted. Detectives are following up on the firearm.

On Friday, 02-02-18 at approximately 11:00 a.m., a 17-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for being a minor in possession of a loaded and concealed firearm, possession of a burglary tool and for possession of a stolen firearm. This occurred in the parking lot of the Alpine Inn on Carter Street.

On Saturday, 02-03-18 at approximately 8:23 p.m., a 15-year old Daly City resident was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon via knife after being involved in a disturbance with his father which led to the subject attempting to stab his father. The victim’s brother in law was able to subdue his nephew until officers arrived on scene. This occurred at an apartment on the unit block of Coronado Avenue.

On Sunday, 02-04-18 at 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of Lisbon Street on a report of a juvenile who had injuries consistent with being in a fight. The reporting party, the juvenile’s father, said his 13-year old son came home with lacerations to his head and a swollen right hand. The reporting party said his son was out of control, was disrespectful and not obeying his wishes. The reporting party said he was overwhelmed. As the father was talking, the officer said the son was agitated and got out of his chair and began walking toward the kitchen. The subject also displayed assaultive indicators towards the officers. Fearing the subject was going to retrieve a weapon and hurt himself or others, one of the officers grabbed the subject and requested him sit back down in the living room. The subject was subsequently arrested for delaying, obstructing and resisting a peace officer. He was taken to San Mateo County Medical Center to be treated for his previous injury. A complaint will be sought.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
