The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

February 1st

0951 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated an auto burglary on the 39900 block of Balentine Drive. The loss is an overnight bag.

1040 Hours: Officer R. Johnson contacted and arrested a 57-year-old San Jose male for his outstanding misdemeanor warrant on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1101 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated an identity theft case. The victim reported someone had used her identity in an attempt to get credit.

1332 Hours: Officer Wallace investigated an attempted vehicle theft on the 6200 block of Market Street.

1501 Hours: Officer Wang contacted and arrested a 37-year-old Fremont male for his outstanding warrant in the Newark Police Department lobby. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2115 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a theft at T-Mobile, 35020 Newark Boulevard. The loss is three cell phones.

February 2nd

1349 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 61-year-old transient male on the 34800 block of Ardenwood Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1519 Hours: Officers and R.A.V.E.N. Volunteers responded to Joaquin Murieta Avenue for a downed tree that was blocking Cherry Street and had ruptured a gas line. Cherry Street was closed for several hours while crews cleared the tree and repaired the gas line.

1838 Hours: Officer Rivera investigated a report of a stolen Green 1993 Honda Civic (CA License #7CDE556) on the 6300 block of Dairy Avenue.

2001 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 5500 block of Thornton Avenue. A 32-year-old Newark male was arrested for disorderly conduct / under the influence of alcohol and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

0105 Hours: During a routine traffic stop, Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 37-year-old Fremont male for his outstanding warrant on Thornton Avenue at Blacow Road. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

0330 Hours: During a routine traffic stop, Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 31-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on Cherry Street at Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

February 3rd

1009 Hours: Officers Palacio and Nobbe responded to a disturbance on the 7000 block of Thornton Avenue. A 43-year-old transient male was arrested for battery and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

0108 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated a residential burglary on the 37200 block of Elm Street. The loss is a water heater and tools.

1443 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to a hit and run accident on Cedar Boulevard at South Magazine Road. A car hit the traffic signal and knocked out power to the traffic signals. The driver abandoned the vehicle which was towed from the scene.

1636 Hours: Officer Herbert initiated a traffic stop on Jarvis Avenue at Fircrest Street. The driver, a 27-year-old Antioch male was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1714 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a hit and run collision in on the 6300 block of Civic Terrance Avenue. An unknown suspect vehicle collided with the rear, driver’s side of the victim vehicle’s bumper.

2253 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a theft of beer from Food Maxx, 39966 Cedar Boulevard.

0032 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 26-year-old transient male for disorderly conduct on the 6400 block of Baine Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

February 4th

0942 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated a collision between a tractor-trailer and a street light pole in front of Harvest Meat Company, 696 Clark Avenue.

1232 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 29-year-old Campbell male for his outstanding warrant during a traffic stop on Jarvis Avenue at Newark Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1642 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated the theft of a Red 1997 Honda Accord (CA License #6MKG040) on the 36600 block of Olive Street.

1850 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated an auto burglary at the Marshlands parking lot. The loss is credit cards and sunglasses.

1914 Hours: Officer Slavazza conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration on Thornton Avenue at Cherry Street. The driver, a 32-year-old Fremont male was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Fremont Jail.


0044 Hours: Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 53-year-old Fremont male for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant on the 5600 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
