The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

January 25th

0004 Hours: Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 32-year-old Fremont male for his outstanding warrants on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1002 Hours: Officer Lenz investigated the theft of a construction trailer on the 6800 block of Mowry Avenue.

1758 Hours: Officer R. Johnson accepted a citizen’s arrest of a shoplifter at Macy’s, NewPark Mall. The 47-year-old male suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2008 Hours: Officer Rivera initiated a traffic stop in the NewPark Mall parking lot after witnessing a vehicle doing Donuts. The driver, a 19-year-old Newark male was issued a citation for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was released to a family member.

2047 Hours: Officers Pacheco and R. Johnson responded to the Double Tree Hotel for a report of a room being rented with a fraudulent credit card. A 32-year-old transient female and a 33-year-old Newark female were arrested for identity theft and possession of access cards with the intent to defraud. The suspects were booked into the Fremont Jail.

January 26th

0804 Hours: Officer Rivas contacted and arrested a 42-year-old Newark male for being under the influence of a controlled substance on Amador Place at Birch Street. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1917 Hours: Officer Wallace investigated an attempted residential burglary on the 6600 block of Garrone Avenue. There was no reported loss.

2047 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated a residential burglary on the 35600 block of Farnham Drive. The loss was a Mac Book and Jewelry.

2209 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 6200 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 46-year-old Newark male was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and probation violation. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2308 Hours: Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress on the 7600 block of Wells Avenue. The suspect had fled prior to the Officers arrival. The loss is an Xbox 360.

0400 Hours: Officer Herbert contacted and arrested a 26-year-old Fremont female for her outstanding warrants during a routine traffic stop on the 39600 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

January 27th

0703 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 6000 block of Music Avenue. A 47-year-old Newark male was contacted and arrested for battery and booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1437 Hours: Officer Wang contacted and arrested a 48-year-old Hayward male for his outstanding warrant on the 5700 block of Musick Avenue.

1903 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 8300 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 43-year-old Newark male was arrested for battery and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2332 Hours: Officer Herbert responded to a disturbance at 7-11, 7288 Thornton Avenue. A 25-year-old transient male was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

January 28th

0625 Hours: Officers responded to a hit and run accident on Thornton Avenue at Sycamore Street. Witnesses provided suspect vehicle information and Officers were able to make contact with the offending driver at his residence. His vehicle was towed from his residence and a complaint will be filed with the District Attorney’s office.

0734 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated the theft of a Gray 1994 Honda Accord (CA License #3KHF775) on the 6500 block of Cedar Boulevard.

1336 Hours: Officers conducted a probation search on the 37800 block of Birch Street. A 55-year-old male and a 42-year-old Female, both from Newark were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The suspects were issued citations and released.

1510 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated a minor injury auto vs pedestrian collision on the 35000 block of Newark Boulevard. The injured party did not need medical attention.

1631 Hours: Officers Mapes and Germano initiated a traffic stop on the 36600 block of Newark Boulevard. The driver, a 38-yer-old Newark male was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

0001 Hours: Officer Rivera contacted and arrested a 45-year-old Newark male for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0130 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 61-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on Ash Street at Wells Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.
