Police Department status update on recent crimes reported in Lighthouse Point (see attached link).

On Friday, January 5th, vehicles belonging to several homeowners along N.E. 47th Street in LHP were burglarized. All of the vehicles were unlocked and miscellaneous items were stolen.

Lighthouse Point officers/detectives have now identified the responsible subject (19 year old male from Plantation, Florida). The subject was identified from fingerprints lifted at the scene. Detectives are moving forward with formal burglary charges.

On Saturday, January 13th, vehicles belonging to several homeowners in the 2000 block of N.E. 27th Street in LHP were burglarized. A w/m subject was observed on surveillance video systems (provided by homeowners), going house to house, checking for and entering unlocked vehicles. Miscellaneous items and a Glock 9mm firearm were removed from the vehicles. On January 17th, Lighthouse Point Police arrested an out-of-state subject (W/M Dylan McPherson, age 22). He was picked up in the city and charged with 4-counts of burglary, one count of armed burglary, and one count of grand theft (firearm). He was booked into the Broward County Jail.

On Tuesday, January 23rd, shortly after midnight, several vehicles belonging to homeowners in the 5100 block of NE 27th Avenue, and surrounding neighborhood, were burglarized. Each of the vehicles were unlocked. Miscellaneous property, including a wallet/credit cards, and change was stolen. Two Ford pickup trucks were also stolen from the driveway of area homes.

The Lighthouse Point Police Department has developed strong leads involving subjects from Miami. On Wednesday, January 24th, LHP detectives recovered the two stolen Ford pickup trucks in Miami Gardens. Detectives anticipate multiple burglary and auto theft charges to be forthcoming.

The Lighthouse Point Police Department wants to remind our residents of common safety precautions:
1. Be sure to lock your vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside.
2. Do not leave keys or key fobs inside your vehicles.
3. Keep exterior lights on at night (especially where vehicles are parked).
4. If you have video surveillance, please ensure that it is working properly. This is a valuable investigative tool for your local police when crimes occur.
