Blizzard Warning until 06:00PM

...Blizzard Conditions and Accumulating Snow Gradually Ending From West-To-East This Afternoon... ...BLIZZARD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING... ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS CANCELLED...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions continuing across parts of the area through around 5 PM, with gradual improvement thereafter as snow diminishes and moves out. Travel remains very dangerous to impossible, and at least localized power outages are possible. Additional snow accumulation this afternoon will generally range from 1 to 2 inches.

* WHERE...Polk, York and Fillmore Counties.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Sustained north-northwest winds of generally 30 to 40 MPH with gusts to over 45 MPH will result in whiteout conditions in blowing snow through around 5 PM, with significant drifting likely. Wind speeds will gradually subside this evening, with gusts decreasing into the 20 to 35 MPH range by 9 PM, and the 15 to 25 MPH range by midnight. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
