Winter Storm Warning until 11:00PM

...WINTRY WEATHER FOR MUCH OF WESTERN TO CENTRAL NEW MEXICO TODAY AND THIS EVENING... .As a trough of low pressure moves eastward across northern New Mexico today, snow showers will continue across western and northern areas of the state. Significant snow accumulations are forecast for the higher elevation mountains, especially in northern New Mexico through late this evening. Strong to severe winds will also accompany snow, producing near white-out conditions at times, mainly in the mountains, along with frigid temperatures and bitterly cold wind chills. ...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM MST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Tree branches could fall as well. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with localized amounts up to 6 inches, are expected.

* WHERE...San Juan Mountains, Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River and Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM MST this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 45 to 55 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. Reduced visibility is expected in blowing snow and white-out conditions will occur occasionally. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow means severe winter weather conditions are occurring.
