“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending Jan. 14, 2018
GRAND THEFTS
On Monday, Jan. 8th, around 11 a.m., an unknown Asian female suspect signed for a package in the 34700 block of Iris Way, and then stole it.
On Friday, Jan. 12th, around 5:45 p.m., a suspect stole the victim’s laptop in the 1700 block of Decoto Rd. The suspect was described as a Hispanic or Filipino male between the ages of 18-25, 5’6” to 5’8” with a thin build.
TRESPASSING
On Tuesday, Jan. 9th, around 1:30 p.m., Ofc. Rodriguez and Ofc. Lanier were dispatched to the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway on the report of a male suspect who was harassing customers. The officers made contact with the suspect, who had an active stay away order from the store. He was also in possession of stolen items from the store. Jason Fivecoat, a 42-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for trespassing, shoplifting, and the possession of stolen property.
ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
On Thursday, Jan. 11th, around 6:30 a.m., a victim said he was walking through Town Estates Park (2438 Andover Dr.) when a male suspect struck him on the side of his head with a sharp object.
On Saturday, Jan. 13th, around 9 p.m., Ofc. Parodi was dispatched to the 1700 block of Decoto Rd. for a just-occurred robbery, which was determined to be an assault. A suspect approached the victim and asked for money. When the victim said he did not have any money, the suspect threw a sharp rock at him, hitting him in the neck. The suspect was located nearby and identified by the victim. Sebastian Melgoza, a 22-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and drunk in public.
BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 8th through Sunday, Jan. 14th, there were four reported residential burglaries:
- 34800 block of Herringbone Way: Occurred between Monday, Jan. 8th at 9:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Jan. 9th at 6 a.m. The front door lock was damaged, and the loss included a purse and a vehicle from the garage.
- 4800 block of Cabello Ct.: Occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 9th, around 11 a.m. A suspect entered through an unlocked door while a resident was home. The resident briefly struggled with the suspect, who fled on foot. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, about 30, 5’7” to 5’10” and 160-180 lbs., with facial stubble.
- 32000 block of Alvarado Niles Rd.: Occurred on Thursday, Jan. 11th, around 9:30 a.m. A door may have been left unlocked, and the loss included a purse.
- 5100 block of Capitola Way: Occurred on Friday, Jan. 12th, between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The rear sliding glass door was smashed, and the loss included electronics and jewelry. Two suspects fled on a black scooter similar to a Vespa. The first suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male in his mid-20s, 5’7” to 5’8” with a heavy build. The second suspect was described as a white male in his mid-20s.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 8th through Sunday, Jan. 14th, there was one reported commercial burglary:
- 30 block of Union Square: Occurred sometime between late November and Jan. 13th. A door was pried open, and four hard drives were stolen.
AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Jan. 8th through Sunday, Jan. 14th, there were 23 reported auto burglaries. Fifteen of the burglaries occurred at the Union Landing shopping center, and six occurred in residential areas. The majority of the burglaries involved backpacks, luggage, electronics and other items that were left in plain view on the seats or floorboards.

From Monday, Jan. 8th through Sunday, Jan. 14th, there were six reported vehicle thefts and one attempt. As of the time of this report, five of the vehicles have been recovered.
