BPD Seeks Information on Overnight Shooting

The Berkeley Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance with a shooting that was reported in the evening hours of January 16, 2018.  At 10:12pm, the Berkeley Police Communication Center received a call from Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to a local hospital who reported a victim had just been brought in with apparent gunshot wounds to his leg.

The 19-year old victim and his girlfriend (also 19-years old) told BPD that they were driving south on West Frontage Road from University Avenue and had stopped at the stop sign located at the entrance to Ashby Avenue when an unknown vehicle pulled up along the right passenger side and fired multiple rounds into their vehicle.  The victim was seated in the right front passenger seat and was struck multiple times in his right leg.  The driver was not hit during the shooting and she immediately drove to a local hospital where on duty Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputies learned of the incident and contacted BPD.  The victim’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

There were no shots fired calls in Berkeley around the time the shooting occurred.

The Berkeley Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance with this crime.  Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information regarding the case is asked to contact the Berkeley Police Homicide Detail at (510) 981-5741.
