Winter Storm Warning until 09:00PM

...WINTER STORM TO AFFECT CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA THROUGH THIS EVENING... .A strong mid level low pressure will track east across North Carolina this afternoon and evening. This will combine with an arctic cold front to bring snow along with very cold temperatures across the region. The snow will end this evening, but it will be followed by arctic air tonight and Thursday. ...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Snow is expected to overspread the region through mid- morning. The snow may become heavy from late morning into the afternoon. Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Storm total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected.

* WHERE...Much of the Piedmont of North Carolina extending into the Sandhills.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM EST this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...In addition to the snow that will also bring significant reductions in visibility, it will turn bitterly cold through tonight with temperatures expected to fall into the 10 to 15 degree range. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are occurring.
