Attentive Police Officer Nabs Masked Robbery Suspect

On January 15, 2017 at approximately 12:05pm, an employee at a business on the 2200 block of Fulton Street called to report that they had just been robbed by a masked suspect armed with a handgun with a MacBook stolen.  Moments later, an on duty patrol officer observed a masked suspect running through the parking lot of the Touchless Carwash while attempting to hide a pistol in his waistband.  The officer began chasing the suspect while radioing for assistance.  While chasing the suspect, Dispatch broadcast the call regarding the robbery which had only just occurred on nearby Fulton Street.  Officers stopped the suspect and placed him under arrest on the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue without incident.

Taken into custody and booked for robbery, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and wearing a mask while in the commission of a crime was London Gix 20, of Oakland.  Gix was also in possession of what turned out to be an airsoft pistol tucked into his waistband.

The Berkeley Police Department is proud of the efforts taken by our officers to keep our community safe.
