Two Vehicle Personal Injury Crash

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 01/13/2018 at 8:30 A.M. his deputies were called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred on Marcellus Hwy east of Lawrence Rd in Volinia Township, Cass County Michigan. 56 year old Decatur resident, Carl Shelby Jr. and his 56 year old passenger, Sherry Shelby were eastbound on Marcellus Hwy just east of Lawrence Rd. A vehicle traveling westbound lost control of their vehicle on the ice and crossed the center line striking his truck. Mr. Shelby's truck went into the ditch on the south side of the road. The driver of the westbound vehicle, 70 year old Marilyn Koyl of Marcellus, spun around and went into the ditch on the north side of the road. The Shelby's were transported to Three Rivers Hospital by Pride Care Ambulance. Due to her injuries, Ms.Koyl was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo by West Michigan Air Care. It is believed that Ms. Koyl was not wearing her seatbelt. The Shelby's were wearing their seatbelts. Intoxicants do not appear to be a factor in this crash. The crash remains under investigation.
