Flood Warning until 09:45PM

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for... Transylvania County in western North Carolina... Southern Henderson County in western North Carolina... Southeastern Jackson County in western North Carolina...

* Until 430 AM EST Friday

* At 736 PM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that moderate rain was falling over the area. Up to three inches of rain have fallen since this morning. An additional 2-4 inches of rain are possible through Friday evening along the favored upslope areas of the southern NC mountains, which will exacerbate runoff and lead to continued rises and minor flooding on area waterways.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hendersonville, Brevard, Flat Rock, Etowah, Laurel Park, Rosman, Lake Toxaway, Looking Glass, Dupont State Forest and Gorges State Park.

* Streams that may be impacted by flooding include, but are not limited to: French Broad River, Little River, Logan Creek, Catheys Creek, upper Toxaway River, Whitewater River, Mud Creek, Bat Fork Creek, Kings Creek, the upper Green River, and many other smaller waterways.

* The streamgauges at the Mud Creek near Erkwood Drive and the French Broad River at Rosman have already reached bankfull. Other nearby streamgauges, such as the Little River at Merrill Lane, Bat Fork Creek, and the French Broad River at Blantyre continue to see rapid rises.

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON`T DROWN. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly and mountainous terrain, there are hundreds of low-water crossings which can be dangerous in heavy rain. Low-water crossings can be submerged by flood waters quickly and without warning. Never attempt to travel across flooded crossings. Find an alternate route. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away. When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and other landmarks.
