Deputies arrest two after wanted passenger flees from a traffic stop.

A Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested two people after fleeing from a traffic stop. At about 10:45 PM last night a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a silver colored Honda in the parking lot at 2350 Santa Rosa Ave after it had been spotted driving on Santa Rosa Ave without its headlights on.

The front passenger, later identified as 18-year-old Jose Infante Garcia of Santa Rosa immediately fled from the traffic stop on foot. The deputy gave chase across the street and caught up to him in front of the Panda Express restaurant in the 2000 block of Santa Rosa Ave. The deputy ordered Garcia to the ground and Garcia refused, calling the deputy a number of expletives. Garcia kept reaching for his waistband and the deputy deployed his Taser, successfully bringing Garcia to the ground where he could be handcuffed. Garcia continued to struggle with deputies while calling them various vulgar names.

During a search after the arrest, the deputy found a methamphetamine smoking pipe in Garcia’s pocket which he was likely trying to discard prior to being handcuffed. They also determined Garcia had a felony no bail warrant for contempt of court. Garcia was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and his no bail warrant.

When the deputy walked Garcia back to his patrol car several blocks away, he noticed the driver of the Honda had driven his car away from the traffic stop. Deputies ran the license plate of the Honda and determined the owner was Jonathan Molina Landaverde, a 22-year-old Santa Rosa probationer. They drove to Landaverde’ s home where they found the car. Landaverde was contacted and deputies determined he left the traffic stop because he didn’t want to get in trouble for not having a driver’s license. Landaverde was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for resisting/obstructing deputies.
