Winter Weather Advisory until 06:00AM Friday

...A WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION WILL FOLLOW A STRONG COLD FRONT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING... ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM CST FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. The ice will result in difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Friday. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible in east central and southeast Illinois, where up to one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is also expected. Areas closer to the I-55 corridor will see minor glazing.

* WHERE...Locations from about I-55 eastward, with the greatest impact in east central and southeast Illinois.

* WHEN...The mixed precipitation will develop near I-55 early this evening, and near I-57 during the middle to late evening. Most of the mixture after midnight will be in eastern Illinois.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong cold front will result in temperatures falling 30 to 40 degrees in a few hours. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
