Police Department to Offer Citizens Police Academy
The Simi Valley Police Department is proud to offer a Citizens Police Academy to members of the community. The Citizens Police Academy program is designed to increase understanding of the operational policies and procedures of the Police Department and the Ventura County Criminal Justice System.
Students receive instruction from representatives of the Simi Valley Police Department, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, and other agencies that work in partnership with the Simi Valley Police Department. The classes will include such topics as: Narcotics, K 9, Dispatch, Patrol, Investigations, Gangs, S.W.A.T., Traffic Enforcement, and the Criminal Justice System. Students will also be required to participate in a ride-along with a Simi Valley Police Department Officer.
The Citizens Police Academy is open to any adult who lives or works in Simi Valley, provided that they do not have any felony convictions or pending criminal actions at the time of application. Prior to acceptance into the program, applicants will be required to undergo a short criminal history check to participate in a ride along with a uniformed Simi Valley Police Department Officer.
Classes will be held once a week for ten weeks, beginning Wednesday, March 14, 2018, and ending May 16, 2018. Sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Simi Valley Police Department, 3901 Alamo Street, Simi Valley, along with two or more field trips held off campus where carpooling will be necessary. Class size is limited to 24 students and there is no cost.
