The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

January 4th

1051 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated a credit fraud case on the 7800 block of Crestmont Avenue. The victim reported that multiple fraudulent accounts have been opened in her name.

1238 Hours: Officer Rivas documented vehicle vandalism case on the 37100 block of Sycamore Street.

1552 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated a vehicle burglary on the 37200 block of Locust Street. The loss was a tool bag and a backpack containing an iPad and a laptop computer.

1932 Hours: Officers responded to Thornton Avenue at Hickory Street on a report of a traffic collision. Officer Piquette ultimately arrested a 32-year-old Newark male for driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

January 5th

0701 Hours: Officer Hunter investigated a stolen Blue 1997 Honda Accord (CA License #3UGD385) on the 6500 block of Cedar Boulevard.

1011 Hours: Officer Hunter investigated a vehicle vandalism case on the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard.

1152 Hours: Officer Fredstrom responded to a disturbance on the 35100 block of Lido Boulevard. A 36-year-old transient male was contacted and arrested for burglary, tampering with a vehicle and parole violation. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0229 Hours: Officers responded to a reported collision on Sycamore Street near Filbert Street. A 25-year-old Newark make was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

January 6th

0758 Hours: Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 36-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrants on Fair Avenue at Mayhews Landing Road. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1631 Hours: Officer Wang responded to Burlington Coat Factory, NewPark Mall to investigate a shoplifter in custody. A 37-year-old transient female was arrested for theft and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2035 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 36-year-old Newark male for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Cherry Street at Cotton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0039 Hours: Officer Herbert contacted and arrested a 22-year-old Newark male for reckless driving (spinning donuts) on Campus Court. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail and the vehicle was impounded.

January 7th

0908 Hours: Officer R. Johnson recovered a Toyota Sienna on Souza Avenue at Ruschin Drive that had been reported stolen January 5th on the 4800 block of Humber Place. The registered owner was notified of the recovery.

0936 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a stolen Red 1986 Toyota Pickup (CA License #81449F2) on the 4900 block of Winchester Place.

1021 Hours: Officer R. Johnson recovered a Honda Civic that was reported stolen out of Fremont on Normandy Drive at Flanders Drive. The registered owner was notified of the recovery.

1136 Hours: Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 55-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on the 37800 block of Birch Street. The suspect was issued a citation and released. Additionally, a 24-year-old Fremont male was arrested for delaying/interfering with a Police Officer and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

1342 Hours: Officers Taylor and Pacheco responded to a disturbance at the Old Town Laundromat, 7198 Thornton Avenue. A 52-year-old transient woman was arrested for trespassing and booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1441 Hours: Officer responded to a report of suspicious activity on the 5600 block of Portsmouth Avenue. Officers contacted and arrested a 42-year-old Newark male for probation violation and obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1613 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated the theft of $2000 worth of vitamins from Sprouts Market, 6399 Jarvis Avenue.

1802 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 27-year-old Fremont female for driving under the influence on Cherry Street at Montcalm Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
