Lighthouse Point Crime Prevention Alert

During recent weeks, Lighthouse Point Detectives have identified groups of individuals from surrounding cities that have been committing dozens of auto burglaries, and stealing vehicles from single family homes in the NE Broward County area. Multiple arrests have been made for crimes that were committed here in Lighthouse Point as well.

Interviews with arrestees and surveillance video continues to reveal the same motive:

1. Burglars are traveling from city to city to commit their crimes.
2. They will enter a city at night (generally in groups), and drop off several subjects, who will go up and down streets, checking car door handles, and looking for unlocked cars to burglarize.
3. They will rummage through the vehicle, looking for anything of value to steal.
4. They are also checking each vehicle for key fobs. If a fob is left inside the vehicle, they are stealing the cars.
5. They are then using the stolen cars to commit other crimes.
6. If they continue to find unlocked vehicles with valuables inside, they return to those areas to commit further crimes.

We need your help to keep crime out of Lighthouse Point.

IT’S SIMPLE….

Keep your vehicle doors locked!
Don’t leave valuables or key fobs inside your car!
Keep your exterior lights on!
