On January 4, 2018, Fairfield Police Dispatch received a call indicating a possible residential burglary in progress in the 1900 blk of San Benito St. While officers were responding to the call, further information came to dispatch indicating a firearm was involved, and a resident believed someone was trying to enter their home. Once officers were on scene, they discovered a different set of facts indicating there was a disturbance between a resident in one house and workers at a second residence. During this conflict, the resident went to their home and retrieved a rifle and walked out to the front of their yard, causing the workers to run from the area.
Fairfield Police Officers quickly determined where the suspects were last seen and quickly surrounded the home. Once the scene was secured, the suspect was called out of the house and safely taken into custody. During a safety check of the home for further victims or suspects, officers located a loaded rifle that matched the description provided by the victims.
Arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and brandishing a firearm was Herbert Similton, 32 yrs of age. A photograph of the rifle taken as evidence is attached.
