...VERY COLD AIR WILL REMAIN ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE REGION... .A very cold arctic airmass remains over the area causing well below freezing temperatures through tomorrow night. ...HARD FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM CST THIS MORNING... ...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM CST FRIDAY... ...FREEZE WARNING IS CANCELLED... The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Hard Freeze Warning, which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 10 AM CST Friday. The Freeze Warning has been cancelled.

* TEMPERATURE...lows 23 to 26 tonight and then in the upper 20s tomorrow night.

* DURATION...6 to 10 hours tonight into Thursday morning and 3 to 6 hours Thursday night into Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation as well as the potential for freezing and bursting of outdoor water pipes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ASSUMPTION ... ST. JAMES ... ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST ... UPPER LAFOURCHE ... UPPER TERREBONNE

Instructions:

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor pipes... pipes should be wrapped...drained...or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in ground sprinkler systems should drain their systems...or cover any above ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Make frequent checks on the elderly. Make sure their furnaces are working and heating the house properly. Be particularly careful with portable heaters...there is a danger of fire or poisonous fumes Pets are also subject to the extreme cold. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. If this is not possible...make sure outdoor pets have warm...dry shelter and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. A Hard Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
