Winter Storm Watch in effect for Thursday January 4, 2018. Three-six inches of snow anticipated in Monroe Twp.

WINTER STORM WATCH – Thursday January 4, 2018. 3-6 INCHES OF SNOW ANTICIPATED IN MONROE TWP. SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO START IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS AND CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON.

AS OUR DEPARTMENT OF PU BLIC WORKS PREPARES FOR THIS STORM, WE ASK ALL OF OUR RESIDENTS TO TRY AND REMOVE THEIR VEHICLES FROM THE ROADWAY, ESPECIALLY ON THE NORTHERN PARTS OF THE TOWNSHIP AND SIMILAR AREAS OFF OF HELMETTA ROAD. PLOWS NEED TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE ROAD TO CLEAR FOR VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES.

MONROE TWP. ORDINANCE #122-21 PROHIBITS PARKING ON ROADWAYS IN A SNOW EMERGENCY. PLEASE REMOVE VEHICLES FROM THE ROADWAYS ON SATURDAY SO THAT THE COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL SNOWPLOWS CAN REMOVE THE SNOW EFFICIENTLY AND MAKE THE ROADWAYS SAFE FOR VEHICULAR AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

MONROE TWP. ORDINANCE #105-29 REQUIRES ALL RESIDENTS TO REMOVE ALL SNOW AND ICE FROM THE SIDEWALKS AND FIRE HYDRANTS WHICH ARE ABUTTING OR BORDERING ANY STREETS IN THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE WITHING 12 HOURS OF DAYLIGHT AFTER THE SNOWFALL. PLEASE CLEAR YOUR SIDEWALKS AND A WALKWAY, SHOULD A SCHOOLBUS STOP BE INFORNT OF YOUR HOME

SINCE HAZARDOUS ROADWAY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED:

- PLEASE DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY AND ADJUST YOUR SPEED FOR THE CHANGING ROAD CONDITIONS (DRIVE AT OR BELOW THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT).
- REMEMBER TO REMOVE ALL SNOW AND ICE FROM YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY FROM THE HOOD, WINDOWS, AND ROOF; IT IS THE LAW IN NEW JERSEY.
- TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS, AND INCREASE YOUR FOLLOWING DISTANCE. TRAVEL AT LEAST 10 SECONDS BEHIND THE VEHICLE WHICH IS IN FRONT OF YOU.
- GIVE SNOWPLOWS PLENTY OF ROOM TO WORK. DO NOT TAILGATE THEM OR ATTEMPT TO PASS.
- IF YOUR VEHICLE BECOMES DISABLED, PULL OFF THE ROAD AS FAR AS POSSIBLE AND TURN ON YOUR EMERGENCY FLASHERS. REMAIN WITH YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL HELP ARRIVES. IF YOU CAN’T GET YOUR VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY, DO NOT STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE OR STAND BEHIND IT. PLEASE PROCEED TO A SAFE LOCATION OFF THE ROADWAY AWAY FROM ALL TRAFFIC.
