...VERY COLD AIR WILL REMAIN ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE REGION... .A very cold arctic airmass continues to settle into the area causing temperatures to plummet into the upper teens and lower 20s for many locations and again tomorrow night. ...HARD FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM CST WEDNESDAY... ...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM WEDNESDAY TO 11 AM CST THURSDAY... The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Hard Freeze Warning, which is in effect from 6 PM Wednesday to 11 AM CST Thursday.

* TEMPERATURE...lows 18 to 24 north tonight and again tomorrow night.

* DURATION...Through noon today and 10 to 14 hours or longer tonight.

* IMPACTS...an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation as well as the potential for freezing and bursting of outdoor water pipes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ASCENSION ... ASSUMPTION ... EAST BATON ROUGE ... EAST FELICIANA ... IBERVILLE ... LIVINGSTON ... NORTHERN TANGIPAHOA ... POINTE COUPEE ... SOUTHERN TANGIPAHOA ... ST. HELENA ... Instructions:

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor pipes... pipes should be wrapped...drained...or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in ground sprinkler systems should drain their systems...or cover any above ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Make frequent checks on the elderly. Make sure their furnaces are working and heating the house properly. Be particularly careful with portable heaters...there is a danger of fire or poisonous fumes Pets are also subject to the extreme cold. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. if this is not possible...make sure outdoor pets have warm...dry shelter and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. A Hard Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
