...VERY COLD AIR WILL REMAIN ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE REGION... .Very cold air in the wake of a strong cold front will drop temperatures into the lower and middle 20s this morning across southwest and coastal Mississippi and the adjacent portions of parishes north of the I- 10 corridor in southeast Louisiana. South of the I-10 corridor in southeast Louisiana temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s this morning. Low temperatures tonight and Tuesday morning will range from the mid and upper teens north to the lower and mid 20s south. Low temperatures Tuesday night and Wednesday morning will range form the upper teens north to the mid 20s south. ...HARD FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TODAY... ...HARD FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON CST TUESDAY... ...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TUESDAY TO 10 AM CST WEDNESDAY... The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Hard Freeze Warning, which is in effect from 6 PM Tuesday to 10 AM CST Wednesday.

* TEMPERATURE...20 to 25 degrees this morning, 15 to 19 degrees tonight, and 19 to 22 degrees Tuesday night.

* DURATION...12 to 18 hours.

* IMPACTS...an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation, potential for freezing and bursting of outdoor pipes.

Instructions:

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor pipes... pipes should be wrapped...drained...or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in ground sprinkler systems should drain their systems...or cover any above ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Be particularly careful with portable heaters...there is a danger of fire or poisonous fumes. Make frequent checks on the elderly and those in poor health. Make sure their heating systems are working and heating the house properly. Pets are also subject to the cold. Make sure outdoor pets have warm...dry shelter and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. A Hard Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
