...VERY COLD AIR TO ARRIVE TONIGHT... .Very cold air in the wake of a strong cold front will drop temperatures into the lower and middle 20s tonight across southwest and coastal Mississippi and the adjacent portions of Parishes north of the I- 10 corridor in southeast Louisiana. South of the I-10 corridor in southeast Louisiana temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s tonight. ...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON CST MONDAY... ...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM MONDAY TO NOON CST TUESDAY... ...FREEZE WARNING IS CANCELLED... The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Hard Freeze Warning, which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to noon CST Monday. A Hard Freeze Warning has also been issued from 6 PM Monday to noon CST Tuesday. The Freeze Warning has been cancelled. The Hard Freeze Watch is no longer in effect.

* TEMPERATURE...23 to 25 degrees

* DURATION...4 hours or longer at or below 25 degrees, with additional hours below freezing.

* IMPACTS...an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation, potential for freezing and bursting of outdoor pipes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ASSUMPTION ... ST. JAMES ... ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

Instructions:

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor pipes...pipes should be wrapped...drained...or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in ground sprinkler systems should drain their systems...or cover any above ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Make frequent checks on the elderly. Make sure their furnaces are working and heating the house properly. Be particularly careful with portable heaters...there is a danger of fire or poisonous fumes Pets are also subject to the extreme cold. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. if this is not possible...make sure outdoor pets have warm...dry shelter and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. A Hard Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
