Modesto, CA – Detectives continue their investigation into an altercation that left a Modesto man dead.

Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at around 11:30 Saturday morning regarding a man shot in a parking lot at Mellis Park. When emergency personnel arrived, they rushed 24-year-old Ricardo Vasques to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The early investigation indicates that before the shooting, Vasques was in a physical altercation with a male suspect. The suspect left the area in a minivan, returned a short time later and shot the victim before fleeing the area. A motive for the shooting, as well as the identification of the suspect, is still under investigation.
