Advisory

The National City Police Department would like to remind everyone that gunfire is not only dangerous but illegal.

The community’s safety is our mission. The National City Police Department is concerned with the safety and well-being of our community on New Year's Eve. The National City Police Department would like to remind everyone that gunfire is not only dangerous but illegal.

Numerous people are injured or killed each year from stray bullets. Remember, what goes up must come down! Please help us in keeping you, your family and community safe this New Year's Eve. Don't fire a gun in celebration. A study by the CDC (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) found that 80% of celebratory gunfire-related injuries are to the head, feet, and shoulders.

Additional National City Police Officers will be deployed on New Year's Eve to ensure a safe celebration for all to enjoy. Reports of gunfire will be taken seriously and officers will respond appropriately. While our goal is not to dampen the spirit of celebration, anyone engaged in the illegal discharge of a firearm will be arrested. Please help us in protecting your community. If you know of someone in National City that regularly engages in firing a gun on New Year’s Eve, please call the police department ahead of time at 619-

336-4411. Report violators and ring in the New Year safely. You can remain anonymous.
