Twin Four Year Olds Surprised by Palmdale Deputies on Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, two very lucky twin four year olds visited Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. We don’t say “lucky” because they had the opportunity to visit a Sheriff Station, but because on December 18, 2017, they survived a terrible vehicle collision. Zachary and Nicole were on their way to daycare when their mother was involved in a roll-over vehicle collision. Both Zachary and Nicole were ejected out of the vehicle, which resulted in both children suffering from road rash to their bodies. They were air lifted to L.A. Children’s Hospital, and were shortly released after being treated for their injuries.

With Christmas around the corner, Palmdale Sheriff’s Traffic Unit wanted to do something special for the twins to let them know how relieved they were to find out how well they were recovering. The unit gathered up funds and went out to purchase two bicycles to surprise them with. On the morning of December 25, Zachary and Nicole were taken by their father to visit the station. Deputies hid the bicycles inside a Sheriff’s vehicle. Zachary and Nicole were surprised when the vehicle’s doors were opened. It was almost impossible to get Zachary off of his bicycle to go home.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department encourages parents, and relatives to keep up with the latest child seat vehicle laws to prevent any unfortunate events. Please remember to double check a child is properly secured before driving a vehicle. Follow the below guidelines to make sure you are following the law:

  • Children under two years of age shall ride in a rear facing child seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. The child shall be secured in a manner that complies with the height and weight limits specified by the manufacturer of the car seat (27360 C.V.C.).

  • Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster in the back seat.

  • Children who are 8 years of age or have reached 4’9”in height may be secured by a booster seat, but at a minimum must be secured by a safety belt (27363 C.V.C.).
