Incident Summary:
 
On December 24, 2017 at approximately 6:01 PM officers responded to a report of 4 door sedan that had driven onto an active SMART Train railroad tracks in the area of Caulfield Lane and Hopper St and gotten stuck.

Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle later identified as Kathy Gilstrap.   It appears that Gilstrap accessed the railroad tracks at a nearby crossing at began driving down them from that point for a few hundred yards.  During the investigation officers noted that Gilstrap was exhibiting symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol.  Gilstrap was administered field sobriety tests and registered at 0.17 BAC on a preliminary alcohol screening test.

Gilstrap was placed under arrested for a violation of 23152(a) VC, driving under the influence of alcohol.  Gilstrap was transported to Sonoma County Jail and booked into custody.

SMART Train was notified of this incident and deployed employees to the scene where they assisted in the removal of the vehicle from the railway.
