Officer-involved shooting in Corte Madera on Tuesday evening.

Larkspur, CA – December 20, 2017. On December 19, 2017 at 5:45 p.m. a Corte Madera resident came to the Central Marin Police station to report a missing person at-risk, stating that his 23 year-old brother was missing and had made suicidal threats. Shortly thereafter, the man called the police department and said that the brother was now at his residence on San Clemente Drive and had a gun.

Central Marin Police officers responded to the residence and located the missing subject walking on San Clemente Drive. Officers directed the subject to stop, but he failed to comply with the officers’ directions and ran. Officers pursued the subject on foot. The subject attempted to draw a handgun from the front pocket of his sweatshirt. An officer deployed a Taser but it was ineffective. Another officer then fired his service weapon, striking the subject at least twice. The subject was taken into custody and first aid was rendered by officers until paramedics arrived. The subject was transported to Marin General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The subject’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

In keeping with the Authority’s officer-involved shooting policy, an outside agency will conduct the officer-involved shooting investigation. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office was selected to conduct that investigation. The CMPA internal affairs investigation will be handled by an outside administrative investigator. Per department policy the involved officer was placed on paid administrative leave. The officer’s name will not be released at this time.

San Clemente Drive between Tamalpais Drive and Paradise Drive remains closed as the scene is being investigated. Crime Scene Investigators are working diligently, however due to the weather and lighting conditions, we do not anticipate the road re-opening until noon on Wednesday. Extra police personnel will be assisting motorists with the alternate traffic route on Paradise Drive.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Marin County Sheriff’s Detective Shawn Baker at 415-473-7274. The Central Marin Police Authority will not be releasing any further information at this time.
