NEWS RELEASE: Carjacking Investigation leads to Pursuit and Arrest
Montebello, California - Early this morning, at 5:55 am officers responded to a carjacking that had just occurred. The suspect pointed a shotgun at the victim and forcibly removed him from his vehicle. Follow-up investigation led investigators to an address in the City of Rosemead where the victim’s vehicle was located and occupied by a male subject. Officers attempted to conduct a high-risk stop however, the suspect failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, the suspect led officers through the city of Rosemead as well as onto the freeway. The suspect eventually yielded to pursuing officers and was subsequently taken into custody without incident. During the pursuit, the suspect was involved in a traffic collision on the freeway however, no injuries were reported. Evidence connecting the suspect to the carjacking was located at the suspect’s residence. Montebello Police Detective Bureau will be handling the investigation to its conclusion.
Erik Alvarez of Temple City was arrested and charged with carjacking, possession of stolen property and felony evading.
