Increase in Thefts From Mailboxes
The Arroyo Grande Police Department is investigating an increase in thefts from mailboxes over the weekend. It appears that mail was left overnight in mailboxes, possibly due to late mail deliveries that occur during this busy time of year. The Department is working diligently to identify the suspect(s); however, if you have any information that may assist please call us at 805-473-5100.
As a reminder, please take the following precautions that will help deter mail theft:
1. Please collect your mail as soon as possible after delivery, as the vast majority of mail theft occurs at night.
2. Leave your exterior lights on or utilize motion detection lights to discourage the criminal element.
3. Consider installing locking mailboxes.
4. Additional resources are available through the U.S. Postal Service: 1-800-275-8777 or www.usps.gov
