Detective Jeremy Lathrop Honored as Officer of the Year

In a ceremony held last night at the UC Theater, Detective Jeremy Lathrop was honored by the Berkeley Police Officers Association and the Berkeley Police Department for his investigative efforts as a member of the Department’s Special Investigations Bureau.
The narcotics and property crimes investigation which won Lathrop top honors began last May with information he cultivated from a confidential informant.  That information ultimately resulted in one of the most successful narcotics cases in departmental history.  When the dust settled following months of dedicated effort, (9) individuals were arrested for various serious narcotics violations and identity theft crimes.

The suspects in this case were found to be in possession of over 600 identity theft profiles and as well as equipment used to make false access cards. During the multiple warrant services related to the case,

Detective Lathrop recovered almost 4 kilograms of cocaine (both powder and crack cocaine), and about $110,000.00 in cash.
Detective Lathrop’s investigation involved the service of warrants in Alameda, Solano, and Contra Costa Counties. Charges were filed in all three counties against the defendants’ whose elaborate criminal enterprise now stands defunct as a result of Detective Lathrop’s efforts.

We are proud of the ongoing efforts of officers like Detective Lathrop who work tirelessly to keep our community safe from dangerous narcotics.  Congratulations again on this well-deserved honor.
