DUI Driver Arrests-- 7 in 4 days in Simi Valley
The Simi Valley Police Department has arrested 7 drivers for DUI in 4 days. Traffic Bureau and Patrol Officers have been actively enforcing DUI laws.
A synopsis of what is happening with DUI violations in a short time period:
Between 12/10/17 and 12/14/17:
At 1:12 a.m., Officer Corey Baker stopped a driver near Alamo and Tapo Canyon Road. The vehicle crossed into opposing traffic lanes. The driver was arrested for DUI and had a .16 blood alcohol level.
At 4:50 p.m., Officer Kevin VanFleet stopped a car driving 60 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on Los Angeles Ave. The driver admitted taking XANAX and drinking alcohol. The blood alcohol level was .14 and toxicology results are pending for the drugs.
Officers Buchanan and Pierson responded to a Hit and Run collision in a parking lot just before midnight. The driver was arrested with a .14 blood alcohol level.
Officer Daniel Kalbacher responded to a collision at 5:15 am in involving a vehicle that had crashed a week prior and fled the scene. That driver was arrested for DUI with a .19 blood alcohol level.
Officer Kahlbacher stopped a driver at 60 MPH in a 45 MPH zone near Los Angeles Avenue and Christine Street. The driver had a .12 blood alcohol level.
Officer Kevin VanFleet located a vehicle that exhibited poor driving that was called in by a resident of Simi Valley. The driver had a .15 blood alcohol level.
Officer Corey Baker stopped a driver at 106 MPH on the W/B 118 freeway. The driver was arrested for his third DUI and had a blood alcohol level of .09.
DUI is a crime that kills many, many people across the nation. The Simi Valley Police Department will be strictly enforcing DUI laws using routine patrol, directed enforcement and DUI checkpoints.
The conduct described above is truly unacceptable and we urge anyone who witnesses what they believe to be a DUI driver to phone 9-1-1. As always, we encourage anyone who consumes alcohol and needs transportation to use a cab service, Lyft, UBER or have a sober associate drive them to their destination so everybody can be safe.
