Hollister Chief to Attend FBI National Academy

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – December 11, 2017 -  In April 2016, City Manager Bill Avera nominated Chief David Westrick to attend the FBI National Academy. After processing and a background, Chief Westrick’s nomination was accepted by the FBI. Chief Westrick he will begin class January 8th, 2018 in Quantico, Virginia as a member of the 271st Session of the FBI National Academy.

The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities. The 10-week program provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science. The National Academy serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.

Less than 1% of all law enforcement leaders worldwide have the opportunity to graduate from the FBI National Academy. This training course is widely recognized as the highest level of law enforcement training in the world. Course work, travel, training, lodging and meals are all paid for by the FBI for all students.

City of Hollister, Councilman Jim Gillio is a graduate of the FBI National Academy from his time as a police officer. Gillio said, “It is the training opportunity of a lifetime for any law enforcement executive”.

In Chief Westrick’s absence, Captain Carlos Reynoso will be filling in for him as Acting Chief of Police. Chief Westrick is scheduled to return back to Hollister at the end of March 2018.
