Fatal Traffic Collision Investigation
On December 8, 2017, at 9:58 a.m. the Fremont Police Department received a report of a collision on Argonaut Way. The initial information was that a vehicle struck a parked truck in the area of Argonaut Way and Mowry Ave. Patrol officers responded and located a 2013 Nissan Rogue impaled into the back of a 2018 utility trailer. The trailer was connected to a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Officers found the driver of the Nissan, a 57 year old male Fremont resident, unconscious in the driver seat and tended to him. Officers also found the body of a 44 year old male with an address in Huntington Beach, on the grass median next to the west edge of Argonaut Way. Fremont Fire Paramedics pronounced the male deceased.
Based on the information investigators have at this time, it’s believed that the 44 year old male pedestrian was standing near the vehicle as he was attempting to move a piano from the trailer, to a residence on Argonaut Way. The 57 year old male driver was traveling in his Nissan southbound on Argonaut Way. The driver lost control of his vehicle and struck both the 44 year old male pedestrian and the rear of the trailer.
The Chevrolet truck and utility trailer were legally parked on the side of Argonaut Way at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. While at the hospital, Traffic Investigators recognized objective signs of drug impairment. The 57 year old male driver has been taken into custody for DUI causing a fatal injury.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
