A Riverside man wanted in Highland for failure to yield and reckless driving was arrested by Pomona Police

DATE/TIME: November 18, 2017 / 11:38 p.m.

INCIDENT: Faliure to Yield (VC 2800.2)

LOCATION: 27900 block of Greenspot Rd, Highland

SUSPECT: Husni Awad, 20 years old, Riverside

SUMMARY:
On November 18, 2017, at approximately 2238 hours, deputies receieved a call of numerous vehicles driving reckless in the area of the Lowe's Shopping Center on Greenspot in Highland. Deputy Kassis arrived at the location to find hundreds of vehicles gathered in the shopping center. Several vehicles were driving in circles at a high rate of speed in the shopping center. Kassis then observed a white Lexus driving in a reckless manner in the intersection near the entrance to the shopping center. Kassis attempted to stop the Lexus for the traffic violation, however it fled on Greenspot to the next shopping center entrance. The driver entered the parking lot at a high rate of speed and nearly struck several pedestrians. Due to the danger to the public, Kassis discontinued the pursuit.

Prior to discontinuing the pursuit, the license plate to the vehicle was obtained by Kassis. During the investigation, Husni Awad was positively identified as the driver but is not the registered owner of the vehicle. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Awad.

On December 4, 2017, Awad was contacted by the Pomona Police Department on an unrelated matter and arrested for the felony warrant. He was booked into a Los Angeles County jail pending his transportation to San Bernardino County. On December 7, 2017, Awad was booked at West Valley Detention Center for VC 2800.2.

The investigation into the other reckless drivers is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Sheriff's Highland Station (909) 425-9793.
