The Department of Public Works is not proposing a parking ban on city streets during the winter months; however, we are presenting three options to be implemented during Snow Emergencies as well as Winter Parking time changes. The department has held two public forums thus far to get input from citizens on their thoughts about the three options that are being proposed. We will be having our final forum on Monday, December 11th at King Park from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We encourage citizens to attend to give their feedback.
Proposed Changes to the Current Ordinance:
1. Winter Parking - The DPW requests that winter parking begins at 12:00 midnight. This change will allow an additional two hours for departmental drivers to remove snow from one side of the street.
2. Snow Emergency - Option One

Snow Emergency & Winter Parking Clarification
During the Snow Emergency & Winter Parking public forum that was held on Tuesday, December 6th at the Mead Public Library, it was brought to the attention of the Department of Public Works that there have been some misunderstandings about the proposed changes to Snow Emergency Ordinance. Many of the citizens that attended the public forum stated that they have read information stating that the Department of Public Works is proposing to ban parking on all streets during the winter months. This information has been posted on social media sites such as Nextdoor and Facebook. The Department of Public Works is not proposing a parking ban on city streets during the winter months; however, we are presenting three options to be implemented during Snow Emergencies as well as Winter Parking time changes. 2. Snow Emergency - Option One
- Parking is prohibited on all city streets ONLY during a declared snow emergency
- Establishing a no parking zone located to the North, West, and South of the Central City and prohibit parking on designated snow emergency routes, boulevards, cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets
- Eliminate the provision requiring citizens to move their vehicle within an hour of the plow clearing the opposite of the street from the current ordinance. This provision should be replaced with the current alternate side winter parking rules and prohibit parking on designated snow emergency routes, boulevards, cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets
