Robbery Victim Shot in Struggle with Suspect

On December 5, 2017 at approximately 9:32pm, Berkeley Police received several calls of gunshots fired on the 1900 block of Vine Street with an adult male voice heard yelling in distress.  Patrol Officers flooded the area and found the victim near the intersection of Vine Street and Bonita Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim parked his car on the 1900 block of Vine Street and had exited it when the two suspects approached him from behind.  One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s backpack and began to try to pull it from his grasp. The victim resisted and the suspected shot him.  The suspect then dragged the victim to the sidewalk while the victim continued to hold onto his backpack. The suspect then fired the weapon two more times at the victim. Ultimately the victim let go of the backpack and both suspects were last seen running south on Bonita Avenue.

The 32 year old victim was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound(s) to his leg.  He was treated and later released.

The suspects were described as:

Suspect 1: Black male adult, large build, 20-30, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt

Suspect 2: Black male adult, thin build, black hooded sweatshirt
