CRIME ALERT – Residential Burglary in RD61 and RD66

Occurred on: 11/20/2017 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s backyard and then proceeded up an external set of stairs to a door, which leads into the master bathroom. The suspect attempted to shatter the window within the door without success, leaving the glass damaged. The suspect then climbed up onto the roof and then was able to access an upstairs balcony just off the master bedroom. The suspect again attempted to shatter the windows in another glass door without success.
The suspect then used a large metal bird statue from the balcony and shattered a small window pane next to the door. The suspect climbed in through the hole and once inside, ransacked the master bedroom closets. The suspect forced one of the closets open that had been secured with a deadbolt lock by knocking out the lower wood panel. The suspect then ransacked the closet and forced open a locked filing cabinet inside. The suspect fled back out the hole onto the patio. When officers arrived, they located several items belonging to the victim on the roof and balcony.
Loss: Unknown at the time of the report.

Occurred on: 11/23/2017 between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.
When the victim arrived at his residence, which is furnished but undergoing construction, he discovered that the plastic to protect his property had been cut in all of the rooms. As he looked around he realized that he had been the victim of a burglary and called police.
The victim was able to review security footage and spotted to men in a black vehicle approach his home. The men were described at Caucasian approximately 50 to 55 years of age.
Loss: Desktop computer, electric guitar and amplifier.

Home Security Tips
- Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.
- If you return home and find your pedestrian door that leads into your home locked, and you are certain that you left it unlocked, DO NOT GO INSIDE!
- Call 9-1-1 ~ Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.
- If your home is equipped with an alarm, always activate it even if you’re only going out for a short walk.
- Consider adding a motion sensor in your master bedroom/bathroom, which will activate the alarm if someone comes in through a glass window or door without opening it.
- Always keep your front and rear porch lights on from dusk to dawn and use motion detector lighting along the sides of your home or areas with little foot traffic.
- Use timers on indoor lamps to give the appearance that you are home.
- Adjust window coverings for optimal privacy while maintaining good visibility outside.
- If your garage door has a remote shutoff button on the wall-mounted control, located in the garage, consider locking the door nightly. This will prevent your garage door from being opened remotely.
- If you have a safe, make sure that it is properly bolted to concrete so that it cannot be easily removed.
- Always close and lock your safe and never leave a key or combination out or in an easy to find location (i.e. office, nightstand, etc).
- When you leave on vacation, remember to call the Police Department for a “Vacation Check” 949-644-3681 or sign-up online at www.nbpd.org. Also, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail while you are away.
