Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to assist Covina Police Department investigate an Officer-Involved shooting, which resulted in the death of a male Hispanic adult that occurred on the 700 block of North Glendora Avenue, Covina, on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at approximately 10:19 p.m.
 
Detectives have learned that Covina Police Department contacted a female Hispanic adult and male Hispanic adult at the location due to a suspicious vehicle. Upon the officers contact with the occupants of the vehicle the, female adult stated she needed the officers’ assistance regarding a disturbance. The female adult exited the vehicle, leaving the male adult inside the vehicle with a female Hispanic toddler.
 
The male adult made threatening statements while armed with a knife and a barricaded incident ensued. After approximately six hours of negotiations, officers feared for the toddler’s safety based on the suspect’s statements. Officers devised a tactical intervention plan in order to rescue the child who they believed was in danger.
 
During the rescue operations, several officers fired multiple rounds at the suspect. The suspect was struck multiple times in the upper torso and died at the scene.
 
The toddler, approximately 7-months-old, was uninjured during the incident.

No officers were injured.
 
There is no further information available at this time and the investigation is on-going.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are responding to the 700 block of North Glendora Avenue, Covina, to assist Covina Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding an Officer-Involved shooting.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. 

No officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
