The City of Glendora K-rail Removal Plan
Glendora, CA – The City of Glendora is announcing that the recently approved Krail removal plan will begin the week of November 27, 2017 for a majority the residential streets in the Colby Fire Impact Area.
The Krails were installed in 2014 as one of several mitigation steps undertaken to deal with the aftermath of the Colby Fire and the significant damage done to the vegetation and soil in the foothills above the City. With the help of several agencies, it was determined the soil and vegetation has significantly recovered. We would like to thank the following agencies for their help: Los Angeles County Flood Control, United States Department of Agriculture – National Resources Conservation Service, the Unite States Geological Survey and Glendora Public Works.
For background, on January 16, 2014, at about 5:40 am, Glendora Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a fire near the Colby Trail north of Glendora Mountain Road in the City of Glendora. The wildfire burned 1,952 acres, 6 homes (total loss), 17 structures (minor to moderate damage), and caused $3,385,396 in damage.

The City of Burbank, which recently suffered similar damage to their foothills around their community as a result of the La Tuna Fire in October of 2017, will be taking possession of the Krails and undertaking their removal from the City of Glendora. The City of Glendora is providing the Krails free of charge and only asking that the City of Burbank arrange for the removal and transport costs to their city. It is anticipated that the first phase of the removal will take about 10-days for the Contractor to finish.
The City of Glendora City Council is pleased that it can assist a neighboring community with this mitigation tool in their efforts to protect their neighborhoods. Any questions about the process and phasing of the removal can be directed to Mr. Dave Davies, Public Works Director.
