School Resource Officer Helps Teach Valuable Safety Lesson

On Tuesday, November 14th, School Resource Officer Trevor McGinnis, assisted Ripon High School’s 9th Grade Health Classes in learning about the effects of alcohol on the human body. The instructor, Mrs. Erin Cutino, was conducting a unit on Drug and Alcohol Awareness and reached out to SRO McGinnis to help out.

The students wore Fatal Vision Goggles while they completed a short obstacle course set up in the gymnasium. They had to perform simple tasks like walking a line in a heel-toe manner, dribble a basketball around a series of cones, make a free-throw basket and then throw a mini Nerf football the length of the basketball court.

Many of the students realized that if a person is impaired by alcohol and they can’t perform simple tasks like walking or dribbling a basketball, choosing to drive a vehicle on the roadway, while impaired, would be a dangerous decision.
