Travelers Beware: With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday being one of the busiest travel times of the year, the Northfield Township Police advises all travelers to shred any boarding passes received during travel. Boarding passes use a bar code that houses personal information. Boarding passes that are disposed of in local trash receptacles can be retrieved and the bar code read by thieves who will obtain your name, telephone number, frequent flyer numbers, flight information and then have access to your account, even resetting pin numbers.

Keep an watchful eye on credit card statements: Thieves have already figured out a way to beat the new chip system.

Do not use Social Media to let others know you are away for the week: Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram & other social media should not reveal your location and the fact that your home has been left empty. Posting photos for friends and family is wonderful, but is safer when posted after your trip.

Stay away from emails offering “Extra Money this Holiday Season”: most are scams, they are not legitimate, may cause you to download malware to your device, and the fraudulent application will be a ticket for identity theft.
