The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

November 2nd

0918 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 38-year-old Newark male for possession of a stolen vehicle and for violating the terms of his probation on the 6500 block of Normandy Drive. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1113 Hours: While investigating the previously mentioned vehicle theft, Officer Palacio recovered a stolen Kia Optima parked around the corner from the Normandy Drive location. The car was released to the Kia store manager.

1328 Hours: Officer Allum investigated a minor injury auto accident on Central Avenue at Sycamore Street. One driver was issued a citation for failure to yield, driving on bald tires and no proof of insurance. The injured party was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

1815 Hours: Officer Hunter accepted the citizen’s arrest of a shoplifter in custody at Macy’s, NewPark Mall. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

2110 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 28-year-old Long Beach male for his outstanding warrant at the EZ-8 Motel, 5555 Cedar Court. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

November 3rd

1938 Hours: Officer Khairy recovered a Mini Cooper that was reported stolen out of Galt, CA. on Joaquin Murietta Drive. The registered owner was notified of the recovery.

2001 Hours: Officer Johnson contacted and arrested a 42-year-old Hayward female for her outstanding warrant in the NewPark Mall parking lot. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

2148 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 40-year old San Bruno female for her outstanding warrant on Thornton Avenue at Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

2345 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 31-year-old Oakland male for possession of drug paraphernalia on the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

November 4th

0851 Hours: Officer Quinonez investigated a non-injury vehicle collision that occurred on Cedar Boulevard at Birch Street.

1000 Hours: Officer Hogan contacted and arrested a 42-year-old Newark male for driving without a license on the 37800 block of Birch Street. Officer Quinonez contacted and arrested a 55-year-old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia during a probation search at the same address. Both suspects were issued citations and released at the scene.

2031 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated a window smash auto burglary in the BJ’s restaurant parking lot, 5699 Mowry Avenue. The loss was3 bags of luggage containing 2 mini IPADs, 2 pairs of “Beats by Dre” headphones, Apple chargers, medication, and keys.

2039 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated a locker burglary at 24 Hour Fitness, NewPark Mall. The loss was an Iphone 7+.

2159 Hours: Officer Piquette and Field Training Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 28-year-old Capitola male for his outstanding warrant at the Lakeshore Park Boathouse. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2248 Hours: Officer Herbert responded to Swiss Park where the reporting party located several backpacks, wallets and purses abandoned against the fence in the parking lot. Follow up is pending.

0021 Hours: Officer Piquette and Field Training Officer Arroyo conducted a traffic stop at Sportsfield Park after observing sideshow activity. An 18 year old male was cited and his vehicle was towed on a 30 day impound.

November 5th

0822 Hours: Officer Taylor led a probation search team on the 6500 block of Normandy Avenue. A 32-year-old female was arrested for forgery and probation violation. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1120 Hours: Officer Quinonez investigated an attempted auto burglary on the 5300 block of Dupont Avenue.

1338 Hours: Officer Quinonez responded to a disturbance on the 39900 of Cedar Boulevard. A 61-year-old Newark male was arrested for battery and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1851 Hours: Officers responded to a report of a fight in-progress on the 5300 block of Saint Mark Avenue. Officers arrived and contacted a group of subjects who stated that a suspect had fled north through the apartment complex after seeing an approaching patrol vehicle. An extensive area check was performed but the suspect was not located.
