Update on the Aggressive Dogs

On Saturday morning at around 8:30am, South Londonderry Police were called to Mt. Gretna Rd., between Colebrook and Mt. Gretna, for a report of three dogs running at large. An Officer responded and was attacked by one of the dogs while trying to take it into custody. The Officer was bitten in the forearm. The Officer deployed a Taser which stopped the attack, with the dog evading capture. The Officer was treated at the Hershey Medical Center, given the first round of rabies shots, and returned to duty. That dog was subsequently captured by a second South Londonderry Officer and a Game Commission Officer. The dog was emaciated, appeared to have mange, and was apparently beyond help. The dog was euthanized. A second dog had been captured and was taken to an animal rescue shelter.

At around noon, Police were called after the third dog bit a person in the face in Mt. Gretna, causing minor injury. The dog was captured by the Victim. The Victim later went to the Hospital for treatment. South Londonderry Police responded and took the dog into custody. The dog was transported to the Lebanon County Humane Society in Myerstown.

Based on the condition of the dogs, it is believed they were in the wild for weeks or months, or otherwise suffered severe neglect.

There is no further threat to the public. Anyone with information about the ownership of the dogs is asked to contact South Londonderry Police, (717)838-1376.
