The Public's Help Sought in Locating a Hit and Run Suspect and Vehicle

On November 1, 2017 at 5:23AM, the San Leandro Police Department (SLPD) received multiple 911 calls reporting someone had been hit by a car in the 13400 block of Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro.  Upon the arrival of police and other emergency personnel, it was determined that a 26-year-old male subject was walking alone when he was struck by a vehicle while in the southbound lane of Bancroft Avenue.  The male, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to an area hospital where he is listed critical condition.

The vehicle that struck that male fled the scene without stopping.  It is believed the vehicle is a Hyundai Elantra that should have sustained front end damage.

The San Leandro Police Department Traffic Division is actively seeking the suspect and vehicle in this case. If you know someone who usually drives a car like this but does not have it today or it has new damage, we would like to hear from you.  Please contact the San Leandro Police Department at 510-577-2740.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous can contact the San Leandro Police Department by texting the word SLPD and their tip to 88777.  Anonymous web tips also can be submitted to the San Leandro Police Department’s website at http://www.sanleandro.org/depts/pd

Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing and reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Police.  The San Leandro Police Department recommends that citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with suspicious persons or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount. We encourage the San Leandro community to record the details of what they observe and to report those details to the Police.  This type of community involvement and partnership has proven to be a very effective crime prevention tool. Citizens act as the eyes and ears of the community first, and the extended eyes and ears of the San Leandro Police Department. Thank you for being a force multiplier in our efforts to provide professional police services and safety to the community.
