(Etowah County, Alabama) Two Gadsden men have been arrested in connection to a recent burglary, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Tony Lee Putman, 38, and Christopher Lee Whatley, 35, both of Gadsden, were arrested and each charged one count of third degree burglary and one count of first degree theft of property, both are felonies,” investigator Brian Smith said.

Putman and Whatley allegedly broke into a residence on Fitts Ferry Road, Gadsden, and stole items that included several guns and prescription medication belonging to the victim. A search warrant was obtained for the residence that Putman and Whatley were staying at. Inside the house, medication with the victim’s name was found along with other items taken in the burglary.

Both men were booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and are being held on $20,000 cash bond each.

Whatley is also facing additional charges of third degree burglary and first degree theft of property for breaking into a residence on US Highway 411 North, Gadsden in a separate incident. He stated to investigator Smith that he stole a laptop computer and two Xbox gaming systems. A property bond for those charges is set at $7,500.
