The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
October 22nd
0605 Hours: Officers responded to a two vehicle accident on Mayhews Landing Road at Thornton Avenue. A 24-year-old Saratoga male was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Fremont Jail. The victim driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries
0927 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated a single vehicle traffic collision into a PG&E power pole on the 36000 block of Haley Street. The 18-year-old female driver’s injuries were treated at the scene.
1659 Hours: Officer Taylor accepted the Citizens Arrest of a 25–year-old transient male for trespassing at St. Edwards Church, 5788 Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
2056 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated the theft of a red 2014 Honda 250L dirt bike (CA License #22H3200) on the 8000 block of Mayhews Landing Road.
2141 Hours: Officer Losier responded to an unwanted guest call at Chamsae Bistro, 6185 Jarvis Avenue. A 58-year-old San Francisco male was arrested for public intoxication and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
October 23rd
1251 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a hit and run accident on the 6200 block of Lido Court.
1257 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a vehicle vandalism incident on the 7600 block of Gateway Boulevard.
1716 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the Safeway parking lot, 5877 Jarvis Avenue. The loss was a backpack containing prescription sunglasses and school books.
1945 Hours: A Security Guard monitoring the business complex at 39675 Cedar Boulevard called to report a suspicious male subject attempting to enter the building. Officer D. Johnson responded and subsequently contacted and arrested a 31-year-old transient male for possession of burglary tools and loitering on private property. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
2259 Hours: Officer D. Johnson responded to Lincoln Elementary School to investigate the theft of a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla (CA License #7UIZ401). After transporting the victim home to his residence in Fremont, the victim found his Black Nissan Xterra had also been stolen from his driveway. The spare keys for this vehicle had been left in his Toyota. The Fremont Police Department documented the Fremont auto theft.
