Scam calls

The Wood County Communication Center has been taking a lot of calls from the public and Wisconsin Rapids Public School district from a subject stating they work for the St. Point PD or Wood County Sheriff's Department. The person calling is not an officer and does not work for a Law Enforcement Agency. If law enforcement does call you, they will give you a legitimate phone number to call, unlike the scam callers.
As with this scam, the IRS, Publishers Clearing House scam, threats to be arrested, people coming to your residence as well as a subject claiming to be a grandchild of person answering the phone; these are not legitimate phone calls; hang up on them and do not answer any other calls from them. Do not let them use threats to intimidate you or comments to arrest you to force you into giving them personal information, buying gift cards or anything else.

Other calls have been showing up on caller ID's as local businesses. Again, if you are not expecting a call from that business do not answer the phone.
Please be diligent in NOT giving out any personal information. If in doubt do nothing in giving out information or buying gift cards and such.

Thank you
